A natural oat and ivory checkerboard — alternating squares of ribbed ground and small woven motifs, laid out like a folk sampler across the field inside a darker border. Undyed wool in its own tones gives it a raw, tactile character, the grid reading warm and handmade rather than sharp or graphic.

Hand-knotted in natural wool, the oat and ivory coming from the fleece rather than dye. The check is built in high-low pile, with some squares raised and patterned and others left as plain ribbed ground, so the pattern comes from texture and tone rather than print. Specialist-washed for a soft hand and depth, dense and substantial underfoot, made for years of real use.

Woven to order in your choice of size and colour, direct from our workshops — about three to four weeks, priced honestly because it comes straight from the makers.
